Not Your Average Outerwear

I question everything. And when I say “everything,” I’m not exaggerating. So, when wintertime comes around and I need to start hunting for coats, I can get pretty serious about it. The average person might simply search for a coat that’s stylish and “looks warm,” but I’m not phased by those outerwear models who laugh and dance in the fake snow. Basing my purchases on cute pictures isn’t going to help me when it’s 5 degrees outside. If I’m going to commit to something for a whole season (or more), then I want it to do its job.

Over the years, I’ve tried out some bulky coats to keep me warm, but they usually made me look like that giant marshmallow guy from GhostBusters. If I dropped my chapstick onto the floor, it was pretty much a goner, because bending over would feel impossible.

But enough about me–I’ll get to the point. What I’m trying to say is that if you want to buy something that’s both warm and stylish at the same time, it’s important to shop at the right place. Lands’ End has been creating high-quality outerwear for the past 50 years, so they’ve got it down to a science. To ensure that their customers stay warm without looking ridiculous, they’ve done a tone of research which ended up with an awesome line of winterwear.

Walking the Walk, Talking the Talk.

Lands' End Outerwear

Lands’ End uses a TIAX Instrumented Manikin, nicknamed “TIM,” to test each garment’s ability to withstand weather conditions. TIM is 5-foot, 11-inch manikin equipped with heaters and sensors to mimic a human body temperature of 95°F. He gets dressed up in typical cool weather clothing, such as a sweater and jeans, to make the experience as realistic as possible. Then, a coat is put on, and the testing begins. The final results indicate the type of temperature that each item can withstand. Lands’ End has broken down the information for their customers by using a rating system which includes “WARM,” “WARMER,” and “WARMEST.” The technology is so advanced that it’s even utilized by the U.S. Military!

Using the best materials.

Men's Regular Insulated Squall Parka Women's Regular Core Down Jacket

Two of the key fabrics used in the outerwear collections include Down and Squall.

Down: As nature’s best insulator, it traps air and retains heat to keep you cozy all season long. Lands’ End uses down with high fill power, which means that it packs on extra warmth (rather than weight).

Squall: This rugged nylon shell is waterproof, windproof, and breathable. It has been sealed with soft ThermaCheck®-300 fleece lining to prevent rain, snow, and sleet from getting in.

Special Features for Kids!

Boys' Waterproof Squall® Parka Girls' Expedition Waterproof Down Parka

Kids love snow, and they’re not shy about it. From sledding to snowballs to just rolling around in the snow, you’re going to want to make sure little Timmy or Tammy stays warm without ripping their clothing. Unlike those expensive coats that the kids will outgrow in an instant, you can get the same quality (if not, better) from Lands’ End while keeping up with their growth spurts. Lands’ End has created special sleeves, called Grow-a-Long™, which add an extra 1 1/2 inches to accommodate their changing height. They also offer SnowGuard wrist cuffs, which attach at thumb to keep out the snow and cold weather. Of course, as you’d expect, the same high quality that’s implemented in the adult outerwear collection has been included in kids’ section as well.
